Lunch with Nic 'n Ashley

Another nice part of our journey was when we joined my oldest son Nic and girlfriend Ashley at Perry's in Ketchum, Idaho. Ashley is very pretty and gracious. Within a few days they were planning on taking a road trip to Cheyenne, WY in a Toyota Celica, which sounded like a fun, a "therapy of the road" break from "the Valley". Nic is my first son, born in Laramie, WY, at 7200 feet elevation, on December 14th, (when the temperature was about 14° as well.) His mom and I took him home in my old 63 Buick Invicta station wagon to our Downey Street split-level apartment. Within a year, he was growing up in the resort area of Sun Valley, Idaho, where I was first a paginator and writer for several trade magazines.

Nic and Ashley originally met at their place of employment in medical technology. In a few days, they both were able to take off a few extra days around the weekend for this road trip eastward to Ashley's hometown of Cheyenne. Nic was in great shape, and looking good, definitely he believes in staying lean and in shape. Here he is (with younger brother Cale) at our Prairie Creek campsite in the early 90s:

At Perry's today, we reminisced about a couple of ealry camping areas, including Gooding City of the Rocks, a place we once named "Cowboyland." Today, Nic's found a great combination of baseball, work, fitness and leisure in the resort area of Ketchum, but I'm sure there are more dreams for both he and Ashley to follow for 2012. I wish them good times and fortunes ahead.
